Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester joining other celebrities and guests at a magnificent fundraising dinner in St Edmundsbury Cathedral in June 2009. This very special evening celebrated the 25th birthday of St Nicholas Hospice Care and helped to raise vital funds for the well respected local charity.
Thanks to the generosity of the Dean and Chapter and with the help of a team of volunteers, the Cathedral’s central Nave had the pews removed and was transformed for the first time in living memory, into a spectacularly impressive banqueting hall for one evening only. The evening started with a champagne reception in the Cloister and Garth Lawn and was followed by a sumptuous dinner provided by The Movable Feast in the Nave with wines included. Entertainment for the evening was provided by a number of outstanding instrumentalists and vocalists, including ‘Collegium Regale’, The Choral Scholars of the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge.
Max Milburn, Chairman of St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Special Events Committee said, “The event was a wonderful night of music, fine food and wine in the presence of HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, other celebrities; and held in what is a truly unique venue.”
All profits from the evening were donated to St Nicholas Hospice Care, who care and support local people and their families live with terminally ill and life-limiting conditions. With running costs of £10,000 a day, fundraising events of this caliber are a vital life-line to the charity. A number of lecturers and students from West Suffolk College were also involved, by generously donating their time to work alongside The Movable Feast both in the preparation and service of the dinner. Justin Cain, Movable Feast Chef Director said, “It was an absolute privilege to be involved in such an original and amazing event. We were thrilled to have been selected as caterers, especially to support one of our very favourite charities.”
