Justin Cain of The Movable Feast joins The School of Hospitality & Commerce at West Suffolk College as Guest Chef for the day

West Suffolk College in Bury St. Edmunds recently organised a week long programme of enrichment activities for its Hospitality students. During the week, Chefs joined the students to inspire and give them an insight into the diverse career opportunities within the industry.

Outside speakers gave a wide range of talks and demonstrations to hospitality students, studying in the kitchens as well as front of house. Justin Cain, Chef Director of The Movable Feast, hosted a demonstration followed by a practical class for 30 students. The students had to prepare and cook a starter, main course and dessert typical of the style produced by this high class event caterer.

Other activities included a demonstration by John Jackman of Infusions, the sole suppliers of the Texturas range of products from the El Bulli restaurant in Spain. This restaurant, near Barcelona, is the number one in the world. Its chef, Albert y Ferran Adria, along with Heston Blumenthal, have been in the forefront of combining science with the art of gastronomy.

Simon French, a former student who now works at a Michelin starred restaurant in Mayfair, also gave a demonstrations in the Practice Kitchen.

“The whole week of events was extremely informative, enjoyable and inspiring for the students and staff,” said chef/lecturer Paul Harding. “The feedback from students has been outstanding. We will definitely look to do this again next year. I would really like to thank all the people involved who gave up their valuable time to inspire our students.”

Movable Feast Announces Recruitment Evening

The Movable Feast is to hold a recruitment evening to further strengthen its front of house and kitchen teams on Thursday 6 March 2008. The evening will be held at Pakenham Village Hall and will be an excellent opportunity for interested new team members to meet existing team leaders and to learn about the business. The evening is also an ideal time for recently recruited staff to 'polish' their skills for the season ahead.

All Movable Feast team members are recruited and trained in-house and the Directors believe that this is one of the key reasons that they continually receive excellent feedback about their service (and of course their food!). "We are delighted that our clients regularly comment upon the teams' professional and friendly service, as this is a key element to our business. Our ongoing commitment to service standards means that we hold regular training sessions throughout the year, as well as social team building events too", said Helen Cain, Director.

The event will take place between 7-9pm and is open to all interested candidates. Previous experience in either capacity is not essential as full training will be given, however a friendly smile and 'can do' attitude will be a distinct advantage.

For further information, please call either Helen or Justin Cain on 01359 231231.
